What is the Coronavirus (COVID-19)?
The Novel Coronavirus is a respiratory illness that can spread from person to person. The virus that causes COVID-19 is a novel coronavirus that was first identified during an investigation into an outbreak in Wuhan, China.

Is there a difference between coronavirus and COVID-19?
Yes. There are multiple strains of coronavirus. COVID-19 is a new disease, cause by a novel (or new) coronavirus that has not previously been seen in humans. This is the strain of coronavirus that is currently being monitored by the CDC.

What are the symptoms of Coronavirus COVID-19 and who is at risk?
The following symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure.*
- Fever
- Cough
- Shortness of breath
If you develop emergency warning signs for COVID-19 get medical attention immediately. Emergency warning signs include*:
- Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
- Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
- New confusion or inability to arouse
- Bluish lips or face
*This list is not all inclusive. Please consult your medical provider for any other symptoms that are severe or concerning.
People who are at a higher risk for infection include:
- Older adults
- People who have serious underlying medical conditions like:
- Heart disease
- Diabetes
- Lung disease

What can I do to protect myself and prevent the spread of coronavirus?
- Washing your hands for 20 seconds with soap and water
- Coughing or sneezing into your elbow or a tissue, then throwing the tissue in the trash
- Avoiding touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands
- Practice social distancing, avoiding gatherings of more than 10 people and keeping a distance of at least 6 feet between you and other people.
- Disinfecting frequently touched surface areas (door knobs, light switches, etc.) or use hand sanitizer after touching public surfaces.
- Stay home when you are sick and keep sick children at home. Children and adults should be fever free for at least 24 hours before returning to school or work. Please notify your school if your child is sick.

Should I see a doctor if I feel sick?
Yes, call your healthcare professional if you feel sick with fever, cough, or difficulty breathing, and have been in close contact with a person known to have COVID-19, or if you live in or have recently traveled from an area with ongoing spread of COVID-19 or have been on a cruise. I don’t have a primary care physician. Where can I take my family?
Contact your school's nurse and ask for a referral to a doctor in your community or call 211 for information on local health services.

Should my family be wearing a mask?
The CDC does not recommend wearing masks. You should only wear a mask if a healthcare professional recommends it. A facemask should be used by people who have COVID-19 and are showing symptoms. This is to protect others from the risk of getting infected. Instead, follow everyday prevention practices such as frequent hand washing, covering your cough and sneeze, staying home when sick, and cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces.

What is the status of Uplift Education's classes and extracurricular activities?
On 3/16/20, Uplift Education announced the indefinite closure of all of its schools and suspension of all planned activities, events, field trips and sporting events in order to help prevent the spread of coronavirus/COVID-19. While we hope to resume classes and activities soon, we have no way of knowing when that will happen. Updates and notifications will be sent via email, parentlink, and will be posted on www.upliftparent.org/COVID19

Yes. Remote learning and academic enrichment is being offered to scholars. Visit our Academics page for more information.

What is being done to keep schools clean?
Our custodial team is thoroughly cleaning and sanitizing each campus including high touch surfaces.

Are there plans to close Uplift Education CMO offices?
Uplift Education CMO (Central Management Offices) phsical offices are currently closed, however, the staff is working remotely. Feel free to reach out via email to a staff member with any needs or requests.
