29 Pieces Home Sanctuary Project
-
At Uplift we believe in teaching the whole child. The Whole Child approach is an effort to transition from a focus that is solely based on academic achievement to one that promotes the long-term development and success of all children. The need for focusing on the scholars’ SEL development is now more important than ever since COVID19.
Another apparent truth that has been realized since COVID 19 is the importance of the home. That is why we have decided to partner with 29 Pieces and Karen Blessen to bring a Social Emotional Learning opportunity to all of our families as this academic school year has come to a close.
Karen Blessen, is a Pulitzer Prize award winning artist based here in Dallas Texas who designed these SEL Lessons. In fact, Karen was the first ever graphic artist to win the Pulitzer Prize.
The Sanctuary lesson was created to help scholars imagine and create a sanctuary space for themselves and learn to respect the space of others.
On this page you will find links to a PowerPoint lesson, in both English and Spanish, that allows you to walk alongside your scholar in this work. You will also see a link to a video of a teacher walking through the entire lesson for you to preview, and a link to a PDF document that shows you easy ways to do this project with ordinary materials you already have in your home. There is also a link to the website for the organization that designed this lesson.
We wish you and your families a happy, and safe summer. As always, thank you for your continued partnership with Uplift!
