Why is college important?
-
In today’s society, a college degree is becoming almost a necessity in order to earn a living wage. Not only do college degree holders earn more money early in their careers, but college graduates earn over $1 million more over their lifetime than those with just a high school diploma.
Don’t let these typical excuses keep you from pursuing your dream of a college degree:
-
My family needs me to earn money after high school.
While contributing to the family as soon as possible can be important, the long-term benefits of a college degree to your family can be a greater benefit. College degree holders earn on average $17,000 more per year early in their careers, and over $1 million more over their lifetime than those with just a high school diploma. This can mean a lasting impact for generations. Plus, many college attendees hold jobs while attending college!
-
I don’t want to take on the debt that comes with a college degree.
While debt is common, and the cost of a college degree is rising, Uplift works very hard to help our graduates minimize the cost of college. We not only help our graduates secure scholarships and grants to help defray costs, but we work with families to develop a budget that is affordable and a plan that is comfortable. Uplift college graduates typically graduate with 50% less debt than the national average.
-
I’m not sure I will be prepared for the rigors of college.
If you graduate from an Uplift high school, that will not be a worry! We equip our scholars, starting in primary school, with the skills needed to be successful in college: not just academically, but socially and emotionally. We also have a full team or Alumni Success counselors that support our alumni throughout their college journey.
