What is the long-term virtual learning option called for SY 21-22?
Our long-term virtual learning option is called Uplift ChallengeEd.

Who can enroll in Uplift Challenge Ed?
Scholars who meet the following criteria:
- Have a minimum of 90% attendance in the last 6 months of school
- Passed all of their core courses (e.g., Reading/English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies/Humanities) with a letter grade of C (70%) or better in SY 20-21 (for scholars in Grades 1-6)

- New to Uplift and Returning Kindergarten Scholars
- Scored in Quintile 4 and Quintile 5 on Reading and Math MAP (Fall 2021)
- Returning Scholars (Grades 1 – 3)
- Scored in the Quintile 4 and Quintile 5 on Reading and Math MAP (Spring 2021)
4th – 6th Grade
- All scholars must have passed the Spring 2021 STAAR in all required subject areas
- New to Uplift Scholars
- Scored in Quintile 4 and Quintile 5 on Reading and Math MAP (Fall 2021)
- Returning Scholars
- Scored in the Quintile 4 and Quintile 5 on Reading and Math MAP (Spring 2021)
OR
- Scholars who are Identified as medically fragile by Uplift’s Health Services Team based on health records on file (Grades K-12)

How will eligible scholars enroll in Uplift Challenge Ed for Semester 2?
Eligible families will receive a registration link the week of November 15, 2021. Families will have until Friday, November 26, at 5:00 pm CT to opt into long-term virtual learning. This is a private link that should not be shared with other families.

What are some of the expectations that we have for scholars if they enroll in Uplift Challenge Ed?
- Your child will be expected to attend live virtual instruction daily, unless sick, and complete all independent work assignments
- Scholars who participate in virtual learning must do so for the entire semester
- Scholars who participate in the virtual learning must come on-campus for STAAR and MAP testing days
- Scholars must attend school each day, and if they miss more than 10 days of school they will return to in-person learning at their home campus
- Scholars must make adequate academic progress, and if their grade slips below 70 in any course, they will return to in-person learning at their home campus
- Your child will be expected to attend live virtual instruction daily, unless sick, and complete all independent work assignments

What are some of the expectations we have for parents if their scholar enrolls in Uplift Challenge Ed?
- Parents understand and ensure that scholar logs-in to their virtual learning classes each day and complete the required course work
- Parents understand that their scholar’s teacher will be an Uplift Virtual Learning teacher and NOT a teacher from their home campus
- Parents understand that their scholar can continue to participate in athletics or clubs that take place after school
- Parents understand that middle school elective courses (e.g., Technology, PE, Fine Arts) will be offered asynchronously
- Parents must commit to checking their scholar’s progress weekly and are required to attend all virtual parent conferences and meetings regarding updates and information on their scholar’s academic outcomes

What will a scholar’s daily virtual learning schedule include?
- For Primary Scholars (K-5): 2 hours of live instruction form a virtual teacher and 2 hours of independent work assigned by teacher (e.g., online Reading and Math Practice)
- For 6th Graders: 4 hours of live instruction, 2 hours of independent work time on elective courses, and one hour of small group instruction or tutoring

If my scholar is enrolled in Uplift Challenge Ed, can they return to in-person learning at any time?
No. Scholars are expected to remain in their learning option through the remainder of the semester.
The spring semester runs from January 5 – May 27.

What if I need a device for my scholar to access virtual learning?
Most of our Uplift scholars in grades 3-12 already have Chromebooks checked out to them. For Pre-K – 2 scholars, you can check out a Chromebook from their campus. This laptop must be returned to school upon the end of virtual learning.

Will my scholar have access to meals if they participate in virtual learning?
We are happy to be able to continue offering drive-thru meal service for scholars that are enrolled in virtual learning. While there may not be meals at every Uplift campus, we are offering them at multiple sites in our major geographic regions.

Can Uplift request your scholar to return to in-person learning?
Yes. To remain in Uplift Challenge Ed scholars must:
- Attend school regularly – if they miss 10 days of class they will return to in-person learning
- Maintain passing grades – if they have one grade in a course that falls below 70, they will return to in-person learning
- If they violate the Uplift Scholar Code of Conduct, they will return to in-person learning

Will scholars who participate in Uplift Challenge Ed retain their spot at their home campus for the next school year?
Yes. Scholars learning setting will change for the school year and will return to in-person learning next school year at their home campus.

Who will teach your scholar if they enroll in Uplift Challenge Ed?
Your scholar will have an Uplift Texas certified teacher who will only teach virtually for the entire school year. This will not be a teacher who currently teaches on an Uplift campus.

Will scholars in Uplift Challenge Ed take assessments?
Scholars will take their normal assessments during the instructional period or independently as assigned by their teachers. Scholars will have to come in-person to take their MAP, STAAR, TELPAS, and any other standardized assessment required by the State or network.

Can my scholar who receives Special Education service enroll in Uplift Challenge Ed?
Yes. Scholars who enroll in Uplift Challenge Ed will receive the services provided by their Individualized Education Program (IEP) team. Scholars with a 504 will continue to receive the supports outlined in their 504 plans.

Can scholars who enroll in Uplift Challenge Ed participate in extracurricular activities?
Yes. Scholars are allowed to participate in all extracurricular activities offered at their home campus
